Music on your wedding day reflects who you are as a couple
Ceremony Music
Whether you choose to have a soloist, stringed instruments or flutes to accompany your wedding ceremony, there is a music timeline that is traditionally followed. The prelude starts 15-20 minutes before the ceremony, and serenades the guests while they are taking their seats. The processional, usually 5-10 minutes long, accompanies the walk down the aisle of the wedding party, such as grandparents and bridesmaids. The song usually changes for the bride's entrance. Interlude music is used to enhance important ceremony moments like the lighting of the unity candle. This is also a moment in which a soloist can perform a song important to the couple. The recessional music accompanies the wedding party in their walk down the aisle after the ceremony. It is usually upbeat and festive, as it is time to start the celebration!
Reception Music
For those who threw away their CDs and want to listen to a band or a string quartet, many of the same rules apply. Someone must serve as the master of ceremonies, introducing the bride and groom and making sure the event runs smoothly in accordance with the other vendors. This can be a friend of the family or the band leader. Song choices, attire and personality should all be discussed ahead of time. Perhaps more important when contracting a band or any other type of musician for your reception is a visit to another event in which they are performing. Make sure to OK it first with the event coordinators of the reception you are witnessing. This will ensure that you are getting what you envision and that your reception is as elegant and note-worthy as possible.
